Ethos
Waldorf Schools began over one hundred years ago. Rudolf Steiner
founded the first school following the principles of anthroposophy. We continue his teaching and follow his beliefs on our beautiful, natural campus in the jungle of Costa Rica.
These guidelines place the developing child at the centre of all educational activities. The curriculum is designed to work in harmony with the different stages of a child’s development by balancing artistic, practical, and intellectual content. Teaching is considered an art, through which a teacher can respond to everyone’s strengths and needs.
We educate and balance the capacities, potential and will of the children, respecting their evolutionary stages and their own learning pace so that each child can develop his or her own individuality with freedom.
By giving equal attention to the physical, emotional, intellectual, cultural, and spiritual needs of each student, children can find the joy of learning and experience the richness of childhood. We aim to do this as a learning community that encourages children, parents, and staff to unfold their potential in a safe, creative, and inspiring environment.
We work out of respect for the dignity of each human being and strive to maintain a community where diversity and collaboration are promoted and celebrated. We have a close-knit community in which educational staff and parents work together with the common goal of keeping Waldorf education alive and growing in Costa Rica.
For over eight years we have been offering an environment for growth, respect, and love to children between the ages of three and twelve.
In 2020 we went through a process of renovation and transformation in which parents and school staff work together to overcome challenges and changes.
After this rebirth we are now called the Pacific Waldorf School.

Campus
As of 2021, we are lucky enough to have built a beautiful new campus to call our
home. Nestled amongst the teak forest, you will find our custom-built classrooms, designed to ensure nature is always close by for our students. Our playgrounds are specifically designed for the different age groups, meaning our students can relax and play just as they like. The PWS campus is a testament to the strength of the Waldorf community, having been designed and built in only a short time, with our families helping with every aspect of building the campus.
PWS is situated in the small town of Caña Fistula, approximately 20 minutes from the popular coastal town of Tamarindo. It’s an ideal location, with a small river running through a portion of the campus and plenty of opportunity for walking to experience the raw beauty of a Costa Rican tropical dry forest. Fantastic transport links mean that our school location is also very beneficial for families in our community, allowing easy access to popular communities such as Tamarindo, Playa Grande, Avenellas, Villareal, Hacienda Pinilla, Playa Flamingo, Conchal and of course a huge array of the stunning beaches that Guanacaste is famous for.
